Oakville Real Estate and Interior Decorators

You've purchased your beautiful Oakville Home, in the perfect location. What to do next? One suggestion to adding value to your home is to individualize it; to make it yours. However, this can be a very expensive proposition, and can lead to very costly mistakes.

I strongly believe in the use of professionals in every field, whether it be an account for your taxes, an architect for a new build or renovation, a plumber, or an electrician. Most people would never think of rewiring their homes, or working in the electrical box. It just doesn't make sense from a safety perspective or usually from an economical one. However, most people will decorate their home with no external assistance; this is not a good idea for most people. There is the odd exception to this rule for people who have a great passion along with a great eye. My wife's grandfather, Ed Lincoln is a great example of this type of passionate person. He is an incredible fine wood worker. He has spent years working and working on this creative facet of his life. Ed is more then capable of making an excellent table or dining room chair.

Why do I suggest an Interior Decorator for your Oakville Home?

Decorators, who hold a designation such as (CID) have several years education learning the basics of space, colour, shape, texture, room flow and lighting. After this they've usually held a position in a decor related business; finally, some become recognized enough to establish their own business such as Brian Gluckstein, whose firm was hired by Daniels for 111 Forsythe, Oakville. Brian's name has become synonomous with quality and luxury. Daniels did this for one reason, it makes financial sense. So if it is a good enough for Daniels, it is a great decision for your Oakville Home

Decorators save money!

Decorators do save you money, through direct access to manufacturers whether for a dining room set, or hiring a painter. Secondly, they provide you with an educated sounding board for your decorating decision. Every time, I make a decorating decision I speak to a decorator to determine if what I'm thinking is a good idea or is there another direction I might want to consider. Usually, they will either agree with me as well as give me a few suggestions. Following their advise, has saved me from repainting rooms for which I'm greatly grateful.

How to choose an Interior Decorator

1. Word of mouth - referrals are an excellent, since people tend to only promote people they felt comfortable using. If you don't know anyone who has used a decorator, look around at shops that you like and ask who they might have used. There is always the internet, or the yellow pages.

2. Remember even with a recommendation ask to speak to a few of their clients.

3. Finally, make sure you are comfortable with them. Just because they have a great reputation, doesn't mean that they'll be right for you. Like everyone, each decorator has a particular style, find the one that works best with you for the best results.

Here are a few suggestions:

For people who love color, I believe Jane Hall is an excellent choice. She is located in the Beaches which is a bit of a distance from Oakville, but if this is a direction you like check her out her store: Jane Hall: The Voice of Style at 2156 Queen Street East, Toronto, T: 416-961-8080.
